Introduction and Learning Styles

Introduction

 When it comes to being a 21 year old in a generation that has been engulfed in technology, I only have a very basic. I have Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to keep up with friends, but I don't have the wherewithal to do anything innovative with technology yet. In the realm of technology in education, I am good at using Microsoft Word, and that's about it. However, at this moment, I'm using a blog, so having a limited knowledge means that I have even more room to learn.

This class is the perfect place to advance my knowledge and skills with technology to get to the point where I can use technology to do innovative and progressive things in my future career. I hope to learn many different technology platforms in this class. I also hope to learn how to access a population that I would otherwise not be able to access. With this larger network, I'll be able to give and receive information and keep learning more and more everyday.

Learning Styles

 I recently took a quiz to see what my learning styles are and this is what my results are:
I learned that I am heavily intuitive in the category of Intuitive vs. Sensing. Though I think this is a strength of mine, it has also plagued me because I am not a big fan of details and I find myself either skipping over the little details in things and subsequently missing some things in tests. My next highest score was global in the Sequential vs. Global styles. I was actually surprised by this because I normally consider myself strong at linear thinking, but when I read the explanation on both, the global learning explanation fits me far better because I find myself having a lot of big "aha" moments in my learning. I scored fairly neutral in the Active vs. Reflective category and the Visual vs. Verbal category. This did not surprise me because I learn well with visual or verbal learning, and I find myself reflecting and acting the same amount.

    It's totally OK that you only have a very basic. We will work together to advance your knowledge and skills in using different kinds of technologies and programs to communicate our ideas and engage students, and etc. :)

ELA Technology Standards Incorporating technology into education is crucial in being able to captivate young learners by speaking their language. However, even though these young learners have grown up in an era full of very innovative technology, they need to be educated on how to use that save innovative technology to benefit them in the world of academia. School Websites, The Digital Divide, and My Experiences on Twitter

School Websites Most schools have their own websites where people can go to find out information and important dates regarding the school. A lot of schools go even deeper and put links to their teacher's class pages on their website. I looked on Google for some examples of this, and it brought me across the Waterloo Local School District website, where they had class pages for every teacher in every grade for every subject. I clicked around on a few of the 8th grade teacher's pages and I really enjoyed looking at their class pages. Most of the class pages that I saw had a weekly assignments tab and a tab which brought you to the teacher's bio. Each teacher added their own flare with math problems of the week and links to fun resources to help their students.
