Dynamic Instructional Design Model, PowerPoint, and WebQuest
Dynamic Instructional Design Model
Dynamic Instructional Design (DID) model is a 6-step model that was made to create instructional materials more effectively. For this blog, I am going to look at a lesson plan that I got from CPALMS and evaluate each step one by one using the DID. Here is a link to the lesson plan that I am going to use: Lesson Plan.
1) Know your learners: It important to know the learners in your classroom. With this knowledge you can mold your lesson plan to be effective for all the various backgrounds. In this lesson plan, I think that it does a good job of taking into account possible learner backgrounds. The only thing that I would change would be to make sure each students had a basic understanding of World War 2. I would do that by starting the lesson with engaging the class in a discussion about their prior knowledge of World War 2 and adding any additional information they have missed. I understand that World War 2 is a very extensive topic, so i would only expect basic knowledge.
2) Articulate Objectives: Measurable and concise objectives are a very important part of any lesson plan. It helps set clear any measurable goals for the students to achieve. I think that this lesson plan does a good job of doing that. The exercises in the plan do a good job of covering all aspects of the learning objective.
3) Establish the Learning Environment: Creating an environment that is conducive to learning is very important to the proper execution of a lesson plan. I think that this lesson plan did a good job of establishing a learning environment through the use of the encapsulating story of Teodora Verbitskaya. That story does a good job of sparking interest in students.
4) Identify Teaching and Learning Strategies: In this lesson plan, it is very thorough on the strategies needed to meet the objectives. Not only does it cover prior knowledge with the separation into groups about rights. It also covers new knowledge through sharing with the class about the information learned through the videos and readings. Finally, it covers a formative and summative evaluation through the use of the final essay.
5) Select Technologies: It is important for lessons plans to have technology that successfully supports the lesson plan and learning objectives. I think that this lesson plan does have the right technologies because it incorporates readings and videos. This allows for a visual and and auditory way of receiving material.
6) Evaluate and Revise: Constantly looking back at your lesson plan to critique and revise is important for making the lesson plan more effective. I would revise this lesson plan by being more specific on things like classroom setups and opening exercises.
PowerPoint
I think that PowerPoint is an amazing tool to use in the classroom. Bloom's Taxonomy is also a great lesson to use a PowerPoint for. I would start the PowerPoint with a Full visual of the entire pyramid. Then each slide after that would be designated for each section of the pyramid. Each section will have a sentence or two covering the basics of that section, and I would speak about each one in further detail. I would then wrap up the PowerPoint with an empty pyramid and have my class fill it in.
WebQuest
I really enjoyed making my WebQuest last week. It was fun to be creative and think of a fun activity for my future students to complete. However, I started making it on Wix.com and it was very hard to use. Once I switched over to Weebly.com, and it was much easier to use. I would improve my next WebQuest by making it more personalized. I used a very simple black and white template. I want to put more color, pictures, and animations in my next WebQuest to make it more exciting. If you would like to see my WebQuest, here is the link: WebQuest.
I commented on Malyce's Blog and Mallory's Blog.
Hey Jacob! I really liked your blog this week. Your section on the DID model is exceptionally done. I liked your section on Step 1 the best, a lot of these generated lesson plans assume that your classroom has already covered specific content. It is our job as teachers to customize these lesson plans to meet the knowledge level of our own students, so it is important to be flexible. I also liked your Weebly website you made for the WebQuest assignment. Each one of the tabs looks very professional, and I think the content you designed is age appropriate for your chosen grade level.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jacob, I agree with Evelyn. I am impressed by how you evaluate each step one by one using the DID. You did such a great job in criticizing the lesson plan and proposing what you would do!
